“Like many fly fisherman in western Montana where the summer days
are almost Arctic in length, I often do not start fishing until the
cool of the evening. Then in the Arctic half-light of the canyon,
all existence fades to a being with my soul and memories and the
sounds of the Big Blackfoot River and a four-count rhythm and the
hope that a fish will rise. Eventually, all things merge into one,
and a river runs through it.
~ “A River Runs
Through It”
Some were born here. Some read about the endless
outdoor adventures in a magazine and ventured here for college and
never left. Others marveled at the culture and surrounding beauty
while traveling through on a summer vacation. The many stories of
how each resident has chosen to call Missoula “home” is as diverse
and unique as the town itself.
Home to over 70 thousand people, Missoula offers a
wide range of opportunities including the University of Montana, the
local farmer’s market, the Natural History Center, an art museum,
the Missoula Children’s Theater, and for the young and the young at
heart, a ride on a hand carved horse at the carousel in Caras Park.
With endless fishing, hiking, skiing and many other
outdoor activities, Missoula makes an excellent choice to live and
raise a family.
